Taismo- City of the Dead :: 4

~Time Left: 21 hours, 0 minutes.

Tails and Cosmo have been hiding in the apartment room for 2 hours. Cosmo was sleeping peacefully, and Tails hasn’t noticed any signs of the dark foxes since then. For now he felt safe, but he was hungry.

Cosmo suddenly sat up and shrieked.

“Cosmo, calm down.” Tails tried to relax her, “You’re just having a bad dream.”

Cosmo immediately calmed down and rested against Tails, “I’m so glad you’re here for me, Tails…”

“And I won’t leave you…” Tails promised, “I’ll be with you through the whole thing. I’m still here, you can go back to sleep.”

“I’m pretty hungry…” Cosmo sighed, “Though I doubt there’ll be anything to eat here…”

Tails stood up and went to look around the apartment room, “I’ll see if I can find anything. You try to sleep, okay?”

“Okay, Tails…” Cosmo rested herself on the couch and tried to fall asleep. Tails searched through the cupboards and drawers finding mainly broken or dusty plates, cups, and cutlery. He flew up to the higher cupboards that he couldn’t reach and took a look.

“Hey, Cosmo!”

Cosmo perked her head up, “Yes, Tails?”

Tails flew down with a couple of cans in his hands, “I found 2 sealed cans of beans!”

“Oh you did??” Cosmo stood up and went to Tails, “Tails, you’re the best!”

Tails handed a can to Cosmo and they went to eat on the couch because the dining table was broken. They had troubles opening the cans. Tails sighed and went through the drawers looking for a can opener.

After about a minute of searching, Tails finally found a can opener and attempted to open one of the cans with it. However, the can opener broke apart in his hands when he tried.

“Can’t we get a break!?” Tails frustratingly chucked the pieces of the can opener to the floor. He sat and pondered a bit, then stood back up and looked around the room again for something else he could use to open up the cans.

Tails searched through the closet. In the closet he found a tool kit.

“Hey, Cosmo. I think we can use this screwdriver.” Tails pulled a screwdriver out of the tool box and sat on the floor with the cans, and took a few jabs at them with it. All he was doing was denting the lids.

“Do you need help?” Cosmo offered. Tails shrugged, “I think I need a better tool…”

As Tails continued to jab at the cans and curse at them, Cosmo searched through the closet for something else. “How about this pry-bar?”

Tails looked at Cosmo who had pulled a pry-bar out of the closet. He looked at the screwdriver in his hand and chucked it across the room, “I think that’ll work much better.”

Cosmo gave the pry-bar to Tails, and Tails took a huge swing over his head and down onto one of the cans of beans, smashing the lid off the top.

“Tails you did it!” Cosmo took the open can of beans and set it aside, then lined up the next one for Tails to smash open. He took another huge swing at the second can of beans and the lid popped right off.

Tails set the pry-bar to the side and they finally got to enjoy their beans.

~Time Left: 20 hours, 30 minutes.

“That was so good…” Cosmo put her empty can of beans to the side and sat back on the couch. Tails had also finished his can of beans and sat beside her, “I’m surprised we found something to eat in this place…”

They relaxed and snuggled, and then they felt a cold breeze blow passed them. They looked up to see where the cold breeze came from, and discovered that the window was now open and the curtains were blowing in the wind.

They stood up keeping eyes on the window and securely held onto each other. Cosmo hugged onto his arm, “Tails…? I’m scared…”

Tails quickly reached down and picked up the pry-bar. Suddenly Cosmo was dragged from Tails’ hand.

“TAILS!!”

“COSMO!!”

A dark fox has pulled Cosmo to him and was now holding her in a threatening lock and grinning at Tails. Cosmo was frightened and crying.

“Don’t you DARE hurt her!!!” Tails yelled.

“I’ve got you by the ropes.” The dark fox smirked, “Looks like the end for your precious plant. Try stop me and I’ll break her neck!”

Tails shivered and panicked thinking to himself, “It can’t end now. It won’t end now!”

Cosmo felt helpless and she was so scared and in tears that she wasn’t able to move, “T-taails… H-help me…”

Tails was furious. He didn’t bother to hesitate, and made the quick decision to throw his pry-bar at the dark fox. It passed Cosmo’s head by 3 inches and slammed into the dark fox’s face, sending him flying back and into the wall, releasing Cosmo from his grip. Tails ran to Cosmo and picked her up, and then ran to the window and jumped out at flight.

The dark fox stood up and felt the dent in the side of his jaw, “That fox is going to die!!” He started running after Tails and Cosmo, and jumped out the window to fly after them.

“Tails!” Cosmo cried, “You almost hit me!”

“I’m sorry, Cosmo, I didn’t know what to do!” Tails said, “I’m doing what I can to keep you alive!”

Cosmo sighed, “I know, I’m sorry. That was just too close…”

“I know… I’m sorry too…” Tails apologized.

Cosmo looked back and could see that the dark fox was flying after them and catching up, “Tails!! Fly!! He’s coming for us!!”

Tails looked back and saw the dark fox following. He frowned, and dove down into the city to try and lose him in the alleys like he did with that other fox.

As he was passing obstacles in the alleys, he noticed that the dark fox took a different turn.

“Where’d he go?” Tails wondered. Suddenly the dark fox came from the alley to his right and rammed into him at full speed, sending Tails flying back and smashing through a window on the side of the building to his left.

Tails slid on his back across the splintery wooden floor holding onto Cosmo securely. He stood up and felt the splinters in his back and held onto Cosmo’s shoulders and looked at her in the eyes, “Cosmo, are you okay?”

“I am, but… What about you?” She asked.

The dark fox followed them into the room through the window, “You can keep trying to stop us, fox, but that plant is going to parish!”

“Over my dead body!!” Tails ran up to the dark fox and leaped into its chest, sending them both out the window again in a flight battle.

Tails kicked the dark fox to the side knocking him back a bit. The dark fox came back and took a large fist-swing at Tails’ face. Tails flew back into the wall behind him and bounced off with a bang.

“Tails!!” Cosmo shouted as she cried watched.

Tails flew up to the dark fox and charged into him again, sending them both into another wall. On collision with the wall, they both fell down to the ground and onto a pile of cardboard boxes. Tails was struggling to stand back up. The dark fox rolled away and stood back up, and picked up a pipe he found on the ground. He walked up to Tails and had the pipe over his head ready to swing at Tails, “First I’m going to kill you, then, I’m going to kill your beloved plant!!!”

Just before the dark fox swung the pipe into Tails, Cosmo had snuck up behind him and hit him over the head with a shovel she found. The dark fox flew off to the side sliding across the ground in the alley, and they watched him dissolve into ashes.

Cosmo dropped the shovel and helped Tails up.

“Now we’re even…” Cosmo said as she hugged him. Tails sighed, “Thank you, Cosmo…”

“Are you okay, Tails?” Cosmo asked. Tails limped a bit and nodded, “I’m fine, Cosmo. Let’s get out of here…”
